Taliban in deadly Kabul attacks

Taliban gunmen armed with suicide vests and heavy weaponry on Tuesday launched co-ordinated attacks in the Afghan capital Kabul, targeting NATO's headquarters, the US embassy, and the Afghan intelligence agency.

Heavy gunfire continued to be heard late into the night as Afghan forces battled to clear a building in the city's diplomatic quarter which had been taken over by heavily armed fighters. Rockets have reportedly been fired at the US and other embassies in the area.

At least three policemen and four civilians have been killed and many others injured, according to police and hopsital sources.

Police surrounded the occupied building, calling in air support to end a siege carried out by gunmen resisting inside the building.

NATO has confirmed that they are providing Afghan forces ground and air support in the operation.

Al Jazeera's Abdullah Shahood, reporting from Kabul, said the police had cleared three stories of the building,Chicago Bears Jerseys but the gunfired continued.

Prosecutors ask for dismissal of Strauss-Kahn case

New York prosecutors formally moved on Monday to dismiss the sexual assault charges against former IMF (International Monetary Fund) chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn, according to the official document filed on Monday.

No guarantees golden try will excite NRL

NRL officials do not buy the argument that a golden try extra-time period would ensure more excitement than the current golden point system.

The NRL argues the extra period is designed to achieve a result and golden point is more likely to do that than golden try.

The league is also concerned about player welfare.

"There's the argument also that you are changing the fundamentals of the game," McGuirk said.

"You can't have penalty goals and you can't have field goals - you're changing the actual game itself."

But McGuirk admits the idea is likely to be discussed again at the NRL's end-of-season conference.

"We're always happy to discuss any issues like that at the end of the season with our clubs," he said.

"We just believe that these types of important changes need to be discussed and, if needed, implemented at the end of the season."

Rep. Charles Rangel says he tried to make deal to avoid ethics charges

Another attendee said Rangel implied, "It was Republicans that didn't want an agreement" and that he signed a deal before the ethics committee released its report last month.
