Windows Vista SP2の開発完了 - 第2四半期中に提供開始
米Microsoftは4月28日 (現地時間)、Windows VistaとWindows Server 2008のService Pack 2(SP2)の製造工程向けリリース(RTM)を発表した。2009年第2四半期中に最終製品の一般リリースが行われる見通しだ。

一応、RC1が3月の段階でリリースされていたわけですが・・・

しかし・・日本ではわけのわからないサービスが・・
RC版Windows 7が貰えるVistaキャンペーンが1日（金）開始
Windows Vistaの購入者にWindows 7のRC版（製品候補版）をプレゼントするキャンペーンが5月1日（金）にスタートする。実施期間は6月30日（火）まで。

このキャンペーンは、期間中にWindows Vistaを購入した人に、マイクロソフトの次期OSであるWindows 7（RC版）を収録したメディアをプレゼントするというもの。Windows Vista Ultimateを購入した場合はもれなく、Windows Vista Business/Home Premiumを購入した場合は抽選（最大15,000名）でプレゼントされる。

なお、キャンペーンは「Windows 7の開発・検証に参加」してもらうのが趣旨とされており、メディアを貰うためにはWebサイト「PC DIYユーザー限定Windows 7 Evaluation Club」での会員登録が必要。会員には、メールマガジンを通じてWindows 7の最新情報の提供や、会員限定のクローズドセミナーへの参加案内、ノベルティグッズプレゼントの告知なども行なうという。

意味がわからない・・・

ダウンロードの手間と、MSDN参加の手間と、DVDメディア１枚分を個人情報とトレードするって事なのでしょうか？

RC1の使用許諾条件は

EULA - Windows 7 End user license agreement
にアップされますので、そのへんの周知が必須だと思うんですが

「開発・検証に参加しよう！」って言われてもなぁ・・


まぁ、使い続けていると慣れてしまってそのまま購入！というのを狙っているのならいいのですが、エンドユーザにコレ↓を理解してもらうのは難しいと思うんですが？

・本製品につきましては、言語が英語の箇所が多く存在します。
・本製品のサポートは、無償・有償を問わずマイクロソフトのサポート対象外となります。
・本製品の使用期限は2010年6月1日までです。2010年3月1日より使用期限の警告が表示されます。

「コレの何が問題なの？」と質問を受けたので補足

現時点では Windows VistaからWindows7への「無償あるいは優待的」アップグレードが行われるかどうか？という部分は未定なのです。従って、現時点でXPを導入している企業は「Windows7 SP1待ち」という模様眺めをしているところが多いようです。仮に無償アップデートが不可能となると、レームダック化したVistaを使いつづけることになってしまう企業も出てきかねません。

こうした、まさに端境期に、Windows7が無償でもらえるような錯覚を想起させるようなキャンペーンを行うことに強い懸念を感じているだけです。（Microsoft公認なら別にOKですけど、公認したら公認したで情報錯誤の誘引で問題になりそうだ・・）

もうひとつは、この Vistaマニア という組織あるいは団体？が非常に不明瞭な点にあります。

ここに記載されている「参加店舗」は広告主なのか、運営サイドなのかわかりません。もし、運営サイドに立脚するならば、個人情報は参加している「PCショップ」に紐付けされた情報として流れることになるわけですが・・・

PIIの扱いに細心の注意を払わないといけない昨今にしては、時代錯誤感を感じずにはいられません。

いずれにせよ、どうしても今 Vistaが欲しい！という（奇特な）方以外は、7/1を待って判断するほうがいいと思います。

「Windows 7」への無償アップグレードに関する追加情報
新しいWindows PCを購入したいと思っているが、7月1日まで待てるというなら、そして「Windows 7」が出荷された際に、同バージョンへの無料アップグレードを獲得することに関心があるなら、その日まで待ったほうがよさそうだ。

米Microsoftは4月30日、次期クライアントOS「Windows 7」の製品候補（RC）版を開発者向けに公開した。国外の一般ユーザーには米国時間5月5日から提供するが、国内では5月7日からとなっている。

また、一部のOEM向けに提供される見込みのStarter Editionでは、ウイルス対策ソフトウェアなどを除いて、原則として3種類までのアプリケーションしか実行できないよう制限することも明らかにした。具体的にどのような方法で制限するかについては、RTMをリリースするタイミングなどで発表する。
